Daniele Watts, who starred in 'Django
Unchained,' was put in handcuffs and detained
by LAPD after they mistook her to be a
prostitute.
The African-American actress, who also posted
pictures to Facebook, where she's seen
handcuffed and crying, claimed that the officers
asked her to produce photo ID after they saw
her kissing her husband in the street, but she
refused, the Independent reported.
Watts who was handled roughly her and even
had her cut her wrist in the process, added that
while sitting in the police car, she felt "shame
and anger" for being a part of the world where
"authority figures" could control her "being."
Her husband, Brian James Lucas, a chef,
backed her account of the events in a social
media posting of his own writing that the
officers cut her hand, which really wasn't
"cool."
However, LAPD public information officer said
there was no record of the incident as Watts,
who was released shortly, wasn't arrested or
brought in for questioning.
Meanwhile, few weeks before California police
officers too had detained an African American
television producer who was on his way to a
pre-Emmy Awards party, because he "fitted a
description."
